Close a damage case
This article explains how to close a damage case (Schadenfall), the data the system requires before it will let you close, and why closing is final.
Closing is a status transition
Closing a case simply means transitioning its status to closed. You can close a case from either the open or the in_repair status. Once closed, the case is terminal — there is no way to reopen it.
Closing requires the damage-management:transition permission, held by SystemAdmin and FleetManager by default.
Closure prerequisites
To prevent empty cases being closed with no financial trace, the system requires one of two things before it accepts a closure:
- The case has at least one financial line item (recording the repair costs), or
- You supply a no-repair reason explaining why there are no costs.
If a case has neither, the closure is refused with a "closure prerequisites not met" message and the status stays as it was.
Note: The no-repair reason is stored on the case. Use it to record why the case closed without repair costs — for example "cosmetic scratch, no repair required" or "damage waived by third party".
Close a case with repair costs
- Open the case in the detail view.
- Make sure the repair costs are captured as financial line items.
- Transition the case to closed. Because line items exist, no reason is needed.
Close a case without repair
- Open the case in the detail view.
- Transition the case to closed and enter a no-repair reason when prompted.
- Confirm. The reason is saved with the case.
What closing locks
Closing makes the case read-only. After a case is closed you can no longer:
- edit its core data (Schadensnummer, dates, mileage, description, vehicle, or driver);
- change its fault classification or the Vorfindeschaden flag;
- add, edit, or delete financial line items.
Warning: Because a closed case cannot be reopened or edited, complete everything first — classification, driver, insurer, and financial line items — and only then close. If you close too early, you will have to record any correction elsewhere.
Audit trail
The move to closed is written to the case's status history with a timestamp and the user who performed it, so the closure is always traceable.
