Adding vehicles to a pool

This article explains how to place a vehicle into a pool in MobilityManager and why pool membership matters for whether a vehicle can be booked. Assigning vehicles to pools is how you control access alongside driver-to-pool assignment.

Permission required

Assigning a vehicle to a pool requires the vehicle-management permission, held by the FleetManager role and above.

One pool per vehicle

Each vehicle belongs to at most one pool at a time. When you assign a vehicle to a pool, it is moved out of whatever pool it was in before. The action reports both the new pool and the previous pool so you can confirm the move.

Add a vehicle to a pool

1. Open the target pool, or the vehicle you want to assign.
2. Choose to assign the vehicle to a pool and select the destination pool.
3. Confirm. The vehicle's pool is updated immediately and it leaves its previous pool.

Note: You cannot assign a vehicle to an inactive pool. Reactivate the pool first, or choose an active one.

Why pool membership matters

Pool membership determines who can book a vehicle:

• A vehicle in the shared car-sharing pool is bookable by every active driver.
• A vehicle in a non-shared pool is only bookable by drivers who are assigned to that pool.
• A vehicle with no pool at all does not appear in driver self-service and cannot be booked by drivers.

Warning: If a newly added vehicle never becomes bookable, check that it has been assigned to a pool. Vehicles without a pool are silently excluded from the list of vehicles a driver can book.

Vehicle counts

Pool listings show a vehicle count for each pool. This count includes only active vehicles. Decommissioned or otherwise inactive vehicles are not counted and are not offered for booking, even if they still reference the pool.

Moving vehicles between pools

To reorganise your fleet, simply assign a vehicle to its new pool — there is no separate "remove from pool" step because the move handles it. To empty a pool before deleting it, move each of its vehicles to another pool.
