Understanding companies and tenants
This article explains what a tenant is in MobilityManager, how tenants relate to users and roles, and how to work across more than one company.
What a tenant is
MobilityManager is multi-tenant. A tenant is a company or organizational unit that keeps its own isolated data — its vehicles, drivers, bookings, expenses, and settings are separate from every other tenant. One installation of the platform can host several tenants side by side without their data mixing. In everyday language you can read "tenant" as "company."
Each tenant has a few defining properties:
| Property | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | The company's display name. |
| Code (identifier) | A short code that identifies the tenant, including at sign-in. |
| Status | Whether the tenant is Active. |
| Language | The tenant's default language (DE or EN). |
| Regulatory framework | The inspection regime the fleet follows: HU, §57a, or MFK. |
How users and roles fit in
Users exist at the platform level, but roles are assigned per tenant. That means the same person can belong to several tenants and hold a different role in each — for example FleetManager in one company and Driver in another. Your permissions are always evaluated against the tenant you are currently working in.
Note: Because roles are per-tenant, being an administrator in one company does not grant you access to another company's data. Each tenant's access is granted separately.
Choosing a tenant at sign-in
When you sign in, you select which company to work in. If your installation has only one tenant, it is chosen automatically. If there are several, pick one from the tenant selector, shown as "Name (code)." An administrator can also share a direct link that pre-selects a specific tenant by its code.
Switching tenants after sign-in
If you have access to more than one tenant, use the tenant switcher in the top bar to move between them without signing out. The dashboard and every module reload to show the newly selected company, and the hero banner on the dashboard always names the tenant you are currently in.
Creating and managing tenants
Your first tenant is created during onboarding. Additional tenants are managed from Administration → Tenants and require the appropriate tenant-management permission (typically held by a SystemAdmin). The number of tenants you may create is capped by your licence — for example, a demo licence allows a single tenant.
Tip: If you need a separate space for a different company, subsidiary, or department rather than a new folder inside your existing company, a new tenant is usually the right choice — provided your licence permits it.
