Automated inspection reminders for HU, §57a, and MFK
MobilityManager automatically reminds your fleet managers when a vehicle's statutory inspection is coming due, so you never miss a Hauptuntersuchung (HU), §57a, or Motorfahrzeugkontrolle (MFK) deadline. This article explains how these reminders are generated, when they are sent, and who receives them.
What triggers an inspection reminder
Each vehicle record can hold a next inspection date. The platform checks this date against a reminder window and, when the inspection falls due within that window, creates an Inspection due soon notification for the vehicle. The message reads like "Vehicle [plate]: HU due in [n] days" and links to the affected vehicle so you can act on it.
Note: Reminders are only generated for active vehicles that have a next inspection date set. If a vehicle has no next inspection date recorded, it is not included, so keeping this field current is essential.
Which label appears: HU, §57a, or MFK
The inspection label follows your tenant's regulatory framework setting, so drivers and managers see the term used in their country:
- HU — Hauptuntersuchung, the German main vehicle inspection (the default).
- §57a — the Austrian periodic technical inspection, commonly called the "Pickerl."
- MFK — Motorfahrzeugkontrolle, the Swiss vehicle inspection.
Your framework is chosen during onboarding and stored in your tenant settings.
When reminders are generated
An automated background job runs once per day and evaluates every active tenant. The first run each day is scheduled for around 07:00 UTC, and the job then repeats every 24 hours. On each run it looks for vehicles whose inspection is due within the reminder window and creates notifications for the responsible users.
Because the check runs daily, a vehicle that stays within the reminder window continues to generate a fresh reminder each day until its next inspection date is updated. Recording a completed inspection and moving the date forward is what stops the reminders.
How far in advance
The reminder window is controlled by your tenant's inspection reminder setting, which defaults to 30 days before the due date. Any active vehicle whose next inspection date falls on or before "today plus the reminder days" is included. A tenant administrator can adjust this value in the tenant settings to make reminders start earlier or later.
Who receives inspection reminders
Inspection reminders are sent to every user in the tenant who can manage vehicles — that is, users holding the vehicles:manage permission, which fleet managers typically have. Drivers do not receive inspection reminders. Each qualifying user gets the notification in their personal notification center.
Reviewing upcoming inspections in one place
Alongside the notifications, fleet managers can see an "Inspections due soon" widget on the dashboard, which lists vehicles with an inspection approaching, ordered by due date. Viewing this widget requires reporting-view permission. It uses the same reminder window as the notifications, and you can preview a different number of days ahead when you open it.
Tip: Selecting an inspection reminder opens the vehicle so you can confirm the appointment, update the next inspection date once the inspection is passed, and stop further reminders for that vehicle.
