Giving a user access to multiple companies
This article explains how one user can work in more than one company (tenant) in MobilityManager, and how granting access in each company makes the company switcher appear for that user.
How multi-company access works
Access is granted per company through a role assignment. Each assignment links a user to one company with one role, so a single person can hold different roles in different companies — for example FleetManager in one company and Driver in another. A user can reach a company only if they have at least one role assignment in it (a SystemAdmin is the exception and can reach any company).
Note: Access is per company, not global. Adding a user to a second company does not change their role or data in the first one.
Granting access to another company
To give an existing user access to an additional company, assign them a role within that company from the user management area. You must be working in the company you are granting access to, and you need permission to manage users there (typically a FleetManager or SystemAdmin).
- Switch to the company you want to grant access in.
- Open user management and locate or add the user.
- Assign the user a role in this company (for example FleetManager or Driver).
- Repeat in each additional company the user should reach.
Tip: Give each user the least-privileged role that lets them do their job in a given company. Because roles are per company, you can keep a user's access tightly scoped in one company while granting broader rights in another.
What the user sees after being granted access
The platform builds each user's list of accessible companies from their role assignments, and only active companies appear in that list. The company switcher is shown to a user only when they have access to more than one active company. A user with access to a single company does not see a switcher.
- One accessible company: no switcher; the user simply works in that company.
- Two or more accessible companies: the switcher appears, listing each company by name and code along with the user's roles there.
SystemAdmins and access
A SystemAdmin can reach any company even without an explicit role assignment in it. When a SystemAdmin enters a company they are not directly assigned to, they carry the SystemAdmin role into that company.
Removing access
To remove a user's access to a company, remove their role assignment in that company from user management. Once they no longer have a role there (and are not a SystemAdmin), that company stops appearing in their switcher.
