The app unexpectedly shows the setup wizard

Updated:

When MobilityManager has not been configured yet, it sends you to a first-run setup wizard instead of the normal login page. If you reach the setup wizard unexpectedly, on an instance you thought was already live, this article explains what triggers it and what to do.

Symptom

Instead of the usual company selection and login page, your browser is redirected to a setup screen (the setup wizard). This can happen on a first visit to a new instance, or unexpectedly on an instance that previously worked.

Cause

The application checks whether it has been configured. If it has not, requests for normal pages are redirected to the setup wizard so an administrator can complete first-run configuration and activate a license. Being sent to the wizard therefore means the platform currently reads as "not configured."

On an instance that was working before, an unexpected redirect to setup usually points to an environment problem rather than something you did, for example:

  • The instance is pointing at a fresh or empty database that has not been set up.
  • A database or configuration change reset the "configured" state.
  • You are hitting a different environment (such as a new server or test instance) than you expect.

Note: The redirect applies to normal application pages. Direct API calls, health checks, and the login and setup pages themselves are not redirected.

Resolution

If this is a brand-new instance

Completing the setup wizard is expected. An administrator should work through it to configure the system and activate a license (a full or a time-limited demo license), after which the normal login page becomes available.

If the instance was already live

  1. Do not re-run setup on a production instance without confirming why it appeared; completing it against the wrong database could create a parallel, empty configuration.
  2. Confirm you are using the correct address for your environment, not a test or staging URL.
  3. Contact your administrator or MobilityManager support. This is typically a deployment or database-connection issue that should be investigated before proceeding.
  4. Once the instance is correctly connected and configured, the setup redirect stops and you are returned to the login page.

Warning: If a previously configured production system suddenly shows the setup wizard, treat it as a possible infrastructure problem. Escalate rather than clicking through the wizard, so existing data is not put at risk.
