The Driver self-service role
This article describes the Driver role in MobilityManager: the self-service role for end users who book vehicles and manage their own driving licence. It explains exactly what a Driver can and cannot see.
What the Driver role is for
Driver is a built-in system role scoped to a single person's own activity. It gives an employee just enough access to request a vehicle, keep track of their own bookings, see which vehicles they may book, and keep their driving licence on file. It is not an administrative role and exposes no fleet-wide or finance data.
What a Driver can do
- Create bookings — request a vehicle for a trip.
- View own bookings — see only their own booking history and status, not other people's bookings.
- View vehicles — browse the fleet that is available to book.
- View own driver licence — see their stored driving-licence details.
- Upload licence verification documents — submit documents for the Führerscheinkontrolle (driver's licence check).
What a Driver cannot do
The Driver role is deliberately narrow. It does not include management of vehicles, approval of bookings, viewing other people's bookings, or any settings, user, or role administration. It also deliberately excludes the Belege (expense documents) module.
Note: Drivers intentionally do not receive the belege:view permission. Belege is a finance and administration area, so drivers see neither the Expenses navigation nor the expense data itself.
The automatic driver profile
When you assign the Driver role to a user in a tenant, the platform automatically creates a matching Fahrer (driver) profile in that tenant if one does not already exist. The profile is seeded from the user's name and email, which means the person can be selected for bookings immediately after the role is assigned.
Tip: If a person needs both to drive and to help run the fleet, assign them the Driver role for self-service and a second role such as FleetManager for operational access. Roles are additive within a tenant, so their permissions combine.
Assigning the Driver role
- Open the user in the user administration area.
- Assign the Driver role for the relevant tenant.
- Confirm. The driver profile is created automatically and the person can start booking.
Driver is a system role, so its permission set is fixed and cannot be edited. If you need to grant a driver something extra, create a custom role with the additional permissions and assign that alongside Driver.
