Viewing a vehicle history timeline

Published:
Updated:

This article explains the vehicle history timeline in MobilityManager — the append-only record inside each Fahrzeugakte (vehicle file) that captures every field change and lifecycle event for a vehicle.

What the timeline records

The history is an append-only log: entries are added, never edited or removed. It captures two kinds of events — individual field changes and lifecycle events — each stamped with what changed, who changed it, and when. It is the audit trail for a vehicle's whole life in the system.

Who can view it

Viewing the history requires the Vehicles: View permission (vehicles:view). History entries are written automatically by the system as a side effect of the actions that change a vehicle; there is no manual entry.

Open the timeline

  1. Open the vehicle from the vehicle list.
  2. Go to the history section of its Fahrzeugakte.
  3. Review entries, which are shown most recent first and are paginated (20 entries per page by default).

Field-change entries

When you edit a vehicle, each changed field becomes its own entry with an old value and a new value. Tracked fields include:

  • Licence plate
  • Brand and model (recorded by name, not internal ID)
  • Pool (recorded by name)
  • Year and colour
  • Fuel type and motor type
  • Next inspection date
  • Allowed annual mileage and rate per km
  • Required licence class and CPC requirement
  • Active status
Note: Reference values such as brand, model, and pool are stored in the history by their human-readable names, so an entry reads "Golf → Passat" rather than showing internal identifiers.

Lifecycle-event entries

Alongside field changes, the timeline records key lifecycle events:

EventWhen it appears
CreatedWhen the vehicle is first added, with its VIN and licence plate.
Deactivated / ActivatedWhen the vehicle is taken out of, or returned to, booking availability.
Decommissioned / ReactivatedWhen the vehicle is retired at end of life, or brought back.

What each entry shows

Every entry records the field or event name, the old and new values (where applicable), the change type, the user who made the change (by ID and email when available), and the exact timestamp.

Tip: Use the timeline to answer audit questions such as when a licence plate changed, when the allowed annual mileage was adjusted, or who moved the vehicle between pools. For a portable record, export the full Fahrzeugakte as a PDF.
