Reactivate a decommissioned vehicle

This article shows you how to reactivate a vehicle that was previously decommissioned (retired) in its Fahrzeugakte (vehicle file). Reactivation returns the vehicle to active service and clears its decommission record, subject to your licence's active-vehicle limit.

When to reactivate

Use reactivation when a vehicle was decommissioned in error, or when a vehicle you intended to dispose of is brought back into the fleet. Only a vehicle that is currently decommissioned can be reactivated; the action is not available for a vehicle that was merely deactivated.

Who can do it

Reactivation requires the Vehicles.Manage permission (FleetManager, SystemAdmin, or a custom role granted it).

Reactivate a vehicle

1. Open the decommissioned vehicle. Its header shows the Decommissioned badge and a decommission information panel.
2. Choose Reactivate.
3. Confirm. The vehicle is set active again and a "Reactivated" entry is written to the change history with your name.

What gets cleared

Reactivation removes the entire decommission record so the vehicle looks like an ordinary active vehicle again:

• The decommission date is cleared.
• The decommission reason is cleared.
• The disposal method is cleared.
• The record of who decommissioned it is cleared.

The rest of the Fahrzeugakte — plate history, contracts, costs, and the change-history timeline (including the original decommission and this reactivation) — is preserved.

Licence limit check

Because a decommissioned vehicle does not count against your active-vehicle allowance, bringing it back does. Before reactivating, the system checks the global active-vehicle count against your licence cap.

Warning: If reactivating would exceed your licensed vehicle limit, the action is blocked and the vehicle stays decommissioned. Free up capacity — for example by decommissioning another vehicle — or upgrade your licence, then try again.

Note: Reactivation restores availability, but it does not automatically re-create anything you cancelled during retirement, such as bookings or a returned licence plate. Re-add those as needed, and use plate takeover if the plate now sits on another vehicle.
