Recording commercial-vehicle data for trucks, trailers, and buses
For trucks (LKW), trailers (Anhänger), and buses you can record specialty commercial data — axle configuration, load capacities, tachograph and toll details — on the vehicle file's commercial data.
When to use commercial data
Commercial data is kept as a single record per vehicle and is only relevant for commercial body types. Passenger cars normally leave it empty. The record captures the operational and legal attributes that matter for heavy vehicles: how the vehicle is axled and loaded, whether it carries a tachograph, and which toll class it falls into.
Viewing this data requires the vehicles:view permission. Creating or updating it requires vehicles:manage (FleetManager, SystemAdmin, or a custom role that grants it). Saving creates the record the first time and updates the same record on every subsequent save.
Fields you can record

| Trailer load braked / unbraked | Permissible towed trailer weight for braked and unbraked trailers, in kg. |
| Body type | Superstructure / body style (Aufbauart), e.g. box, tipper, curtainsider. |
| Load volume | Cargo volume in cubic metres. |
| Load length / width / height | Internal cargo dimensions in millimetres. |
| Has tachograph | Whether a tachograph is fitted. |
| Toll class | Toll classification (Mautklasse) used for road-toll charging. |
| Has toll device | Whether an on-board toll unit (OBU) is installed. |
| Next safety inspection date | Due date of the next safety inspection (Sicherheitsprüfung, SP). |
| Next tachograph inspection date | Due date of the next tachograph calibration/inspection. |
| Notes | Free text for anything not covered by the fields above. |
Recording or updating commercial data
- Open the commercial vehicle and go to the commercial data of the Fahrzeugakte.
- Enter the axle, load, tachograph, and toll details that apply. Leave fields you do not track empty — they are all optional.
- Save. The first save creates the commercial-data record for the vehicle; later saves update it in place.
Tip: Fill in the next safety-inspection and tachograph-inspection dates. These are the dates fleet managers rely on to plan mandatory checks for heavy vehicles, so keeping them current avoids missed deadlines.
Note: There is only one commercial-data record per vehicle. Editing any field and saving overwrites the previous values for that vehicle rather than adding a second record.
