Browsing the vehicle catalog (brands and models)
This article explains how to browse the vehicle catalog in MobilityManager — the shared library of brands, models, and technical variants you draw on when identifying and creating vehicles.
What the catalog is
The catalog holds brands, models, and detailed vehicle-data variants. Brands and models are reference data stored centrally and shared across all tenants, so the same "Volkswagen → Golf" appears consistently everywhere. Each model can have several technical variants (for example different engines or body types).
Who can browse it
Browsing the catalog requires the Vehicles: View permission (vehicles:view). Adding, editing, deactivating, or deleting brands and models, and synchronising the catalog, require the Vehicles: Manage permission — these reference-data operations are typically reserved for SystemAdmin.
Browse brands and models
- Open the catalog browse view.
- Scroll or type in the search box to filter brands by name. Each brand shows how many active models it has.
- Select a brand to list its models. Each model shows its vehicle type and how many active data variants it has.
- Select a model to see its variants, each listed with body type, fuel type, power (kW and PS), displacement, and production years.
Tip: The model count next to each brand and the variant count next to each model tell you at a glance where catalog data is rich and where it is thin, so you know when a manual entry or a catalog sync is needed.
Managing brands and models (SystemAdmin)
With the Vehicles: Manage permission you can maintain the reference data directly:
- Create, rename, activate, or deactivate a brand. A brand can be deleted only if it has no models.
- Create, rename, activate, or deactivate a model under a brand, and set its vehicle type.
- Before deleting a model, check whether it is still in use — the system reports how many vehicles reference it so you do not remove a model that fleets depend on.
Note: Deactivating a brand or model hides it from selection without removing history. Vehicles already using it keep their brand and model, but you cannot pick an inactive brand or model when creating or editing a vehicle.
Keeping the catalog up to date
The catalog can be synchronised from the central License Portal, which imports brands, models, and vehicle data. A status view compares your local counts (brands, models, variants) with the remote counts and flags when a synchronisation is needed. Running the sync is a Vehicles: Manage operation.
