Finding a vehicle by HSN/TSN
This article explains how to identify a vehicle in MobilityManager using its HSN/TSN codes, so you can find the exact catalog variant and its technical specifications quickly when creating or documenting a vehicle.
What HSN and TSN are
HSN (Herstellerschlüsselnummer, manufacturer key number) and TSN (Typschlüsselnummer, type key number) are the German type-approval codes printed on the vehicle registration document (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I). Together they identify a precise vehicle variant, which makes them the fastest way to match a real vehicle to a catalog entry.
Who can use the lookup
The HSN/TSN lookup requires the Vehicles: View permission (vehicles:view), so any user who can view vehicles can search the catalog.
Search by HSN/TSN
- Open the vehicle-data lookup (available when creating or identifying a vehicle).
- Enter the HSN. This is required.
- Optionally enter the TSN to narrow the results to one specific variant. Leaving TSN blank returns all variants that share the HSN.
- Run the search. Only active catalog variants are returned, ordered by brand, then model, then variant name.
Tip: Start with the HSN alone to see every variant for that manufacturer key, then add the TSN once you have confirmed the exact model and engine. A search can return up to 100 matches.
What the results show
Each match summarises enough detail to pick the right variant:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Brand and model | The catalog brand and model the variant belongs to. |
| Variant name | The specific trim or engine variant. |
| Body type, fuel type | Basic classification of the vehicle. |
| Power (kW / PS) | Engine output in both units. |
| Displacement | Engine displacement in cubic centimetres. |
| Production years | The production start and end years for the variant. |
| HSN / TSN / VSN | The type-approval codes, including the VSN (Variante/Version). |
Full technical specifications
Open a variant to view its complete technical data — drive type, engine type and code, power at rpm, CO₂ emissions, curb weight, maximum speed, seat and door counts, dimensions, axle loads, permissible total weight, and towing capacities. When a vehicle is linked to this variant, those specifications populate the Technik (technical data) tab of its Fahrzeugakte automatically.
Note: If an HSN/TSN combination returns no results, the variant may not yet be in your local catalog. A SystemAdmin can synchronise the catalog from the License Portal to import the latest brands, models, and variants.
