Editing Lock, Drafts and Direct Links in the Vehicle File

Module: Master data → Vehicles (vehicle file)

Audience: All users, WebAdmins

Required permission: vehicles.edit (releasing locks: WebAdmin)

Overview

So that two editors cannot overwrite each other's data, FMWeb protects every vehicle file with an editing lock (Bearbeitungssperre). In addition, a draft autosave safeguards unsaved entries against connection drops, and via direct links you can jump straight to individual areas of the file.

The editing lock

  • When a user with editing rights opens a vehicle file, FMWeb reserves it for them. The lock is automatically renewed in the background every 30 seconds as long as the file is open, and is released again when you leave the page.
  • If a second person opens the same file, they see the notice "Dieses Fahrzeug wird derzeit von {Name} bearbeitet." (This vehicle is currently being edited by {Name}.) Saving is then disabled: "Speichern ist deaktiviert, solange ein anderer Benutzer dieses Fahrzeug bearbeitet." (Saving is disabled while another user is editing this vehicle.)
  • If the lock holder's browser is closed or crashes, the lock expires by itself after about 2 minutes – usually a short wait and reloading the file is enough.

Releasing a lock as a WebAdmin

In the lock notice, WebAdmins see two buttons:

ButtonEffect
"Sperre übernehmen" (Take over lock)The lock passes to the admin, who can continue working immediately ("Die Bearbeitungssperre wurde übernommen." / The editing lock has been taken over.)
"Sperre freigeben" (Release lock)The lock is fully cleared and the file is available to everyone again ("Die Bearbeitungssperre wurde freigegeben." / The editing lock has been released.)

Caution: both end the previous holder's work – coordinate beforehand, otherwise their unsaved changes are lost.

Draft autosave

While you are editing, FMWeb saves your entries every 20 seconds as a draft in the browser (per user and vehicle, locally on your device). If the connection drops and is restored, FMWeb asks:

"Gespeicherter Entwurf gefunden" (Saved draft found) – "Es wurde ein ungespeicherter Entwurf von vor {N} Minute(n) gefunden. Möchten Sie ihn wiederherstellen?" (An unsaved draft from {N} minute(s) ago was found. Would you like to restore it?)
  • "Wiederherstellen" (Restore) reinstates your entries ("Entwurf wurde wiederhergestellt." / Draft has been restored.).
  • Declining discards the draft ("Entwurf wurde verworfen." / Draft has been discarded.).
  • Drafts older than 30 minutes are removed automatically ("Ein gespeicherter Entwurf war älter als 30 Minuten und wurde entfernt." / A saved draft was older than 30 minutes and was removed.).
  • After a successful save the draft is deleted.

The draft lives only in local browser storage: it is not available on another PC or in another browser – so it does not replace saving.

Direct links to areas of the file (?section=)

Every area of the vehicle file has its own URL of the form /applications/vehicles/addoredit/{id}?section={bereich} – handy for bookmarks and internal tickets. Valid values: overview, appointments, documents, belege, schaeden, versicherung, kauf, technik, wartung, reifen, vignetten, vertraege, lkwbus, anhaenger, datenblatt. When you switch tabs, FMWeb updates the URL automatically; invalid values open the overview.

Why is the file read-only? (checklist)

  1. "Sie haben nur Leserechte für dieses Fahrzeug." (You have read-only rights for this vehicle.) → The vehicles.edit permission is missing (article 18).
  2. "Dieses Fahrzeug wird derzeit von … bearbeitet." (This vehicle is currently being edited by …) → Editing lock, see above.
  3. "Dieses Fahrzeug ist verkauft, stillgelegt oder inaktiv und kann nicht mehr bearbeitet werden." (This vehicle is sold, decommissioned or inactive and can no longer be edited.) → Status-based write protection; a WebAdmin can reset the status from the action bar (article 34).
  4. Individual tabs additionally locked? → Their own area rights apply there (e.g. versicherung.edit, maintenance.edit, tyres.edit, vignetten.edit).
