"Sign-In Fails": Systematically Checking User and Driver Login

Published:
Updated:

Module: Sign-in / System Administration → Users / Driver record

Audience: Administrators, support

Required permission: for diagnosis: system.users (user accounts), drivers.edit (driver record)

The two sign-in paths

The start page asks "Als was möchten Sie sich anmelden?" (As what would you like to sign in?) - troubleshooting differs by path:

PathWhoProcedure
"Als Anwender anmelden" (Sign in as user) (/authentication/user)Back-office userSelect the user from the list → choose the client (only the clients released to the user appear, the first is preselected) → password → "Einloggen" (Log in)
"Als Fahrer anmelden" (Sign in as driver) (/authentication/driver)Driver (driver portal/WebRes)Choose the client → select the driver from the list + password; depending on the system configuration, instead a text entry "Anmeldedaten" (Login details) (personnel number or e-mail address) + password

The error message is always the same

When a sign-in is rejected, both paths show only: "Leider stimmen die Login Daten nicht." (Unfortunately the login details are incorrect.) For security reasons, FMWeb does not reveal what exactly was wrong. The protection against too many attempts (more than 20 sign-in attempts per minute from the same IP address) also shows the same message - in that case wait briefly and try again. There is no automatic account lock after n failed attempts.

Checklist for user login

#Check
1Password correct? Case matters. Forgotten → the administrator sets a new one in the user editor via "Passwort festlegen" (Set password) (article 18).
2User missing from the selection list? The "Gesperrt?" (Blocked?) flag in the user account hides the user from the sign-in list - there is no separate "blocked" message.
3Right client? The client selection shows only the clients assigned to the user. If one is missing, the account's client release must be extended.
4"Passwort ändern" (Change password) appears immediately after login? No error: "Passwort bei nächster Anmeldung ändern" (Change password at next sign-in) is set. FMWeb redirects automatically and reports "Sie müssen Ihr Passwort ändern, bevor Sie fortfahren können." (You must change your password before you can continue.) - only after the change do you proceed (article 115).

Checklist for driver login

#Check
1Driver missing from the sign-in list? A driver block ("Fahrer ist gesperrt?" (Driver is blocked?)) or the Inaktiv (Inactive) flag hides the driver from the selection list (article 47).
2Password unknown or never set? Reassign it in the driver record via "Kennwort zurücksetzen" (Reset password) - without a set password no sign-in is possible.
3Text-entry mode: "Anmeldedaten" (Login details) means personnel number or e-mail address - exactly as stored in the driver record.

Sign-in via single sign-on

If an OpenID Connect provider is configured, the user login additionally shows "Login mit Single Sign-On" (Log in with single sign-on). The mapping is done via the e-mail address of the user account; the possible error messages ("Keine E-Mail-Adresse … erhalten" (No e-mail address … received), "Kein Benutzer mit dieser E-Mail-Adresse gefunden" (No user found with this e-mail address), "Mehrere Benutzer …" (Multiple users …)) are explained in article 115. Note: an account with "Gesperrt?" (Blocked?) is treated during SSO as non-existent and receives "Kein Benutzer mit dieser E-Mail-Adresse gefunden …" (No user found with this e-mail address …).

Signed in, but (almost) nothing to see?

That is not a sign-in error. Which menu items appear after login is decided by permissions (roles) and the licence edition - a freshly created user without a role assignment automatically receives the default role, and a user with too small an edition sees the "Enterprise Lizenz erforderlich" (Enterprise licence required) page. In that case, work through the four steps from article 120 (edition → add-on licence → permission → system setting); role maintenance is described in article 18.
