Electric Vehicles: Charging Sessions and Electric Receipts (kWh)
Overview
FMWeb treats electricity charging sessions as their own receipt type – Elektro-Belege (electric receipts) – with the unit of measure kWh instead of litres. This means cost and consumption reports are also correct for electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV).
Where do electric receipts come from?
- Tankkarten-Import (fuel-card import): charging sessions in the provider files (e.g. DKV) are detected automatically – based on the unit of measure (kWh, or minutes for time-based billing) and the product category. They are posted under the cost type „Laden" (Charging) (the cost type is created automatically if needed):
- kWh billing: the energy amount is stored on the receipt in kWh
- Minute billing: only the amount is posted (no energy amount)
- Driver response: drivers report charging sessions via the Fahrerportal (driver portal) (response → fuel type „Strom", i.e. Electricity), including the charging location (Home / Work / Public). After your approval, an electric receipt is created – except for the charging location Home: home charges flow into the Heimlade-Abrechnung (home-charging reimbursement) (article 12), so that the reimbursement does not appear twice as costs.
Where can I see the charging data?
- Belege overview and Fahrzeugakte → Belege (Receipts overview and vehicle record → Receipts): the Menge (Amount) column shows the correct unit, e.g. „43.83 kWh" or „45.32 l".
- „Verbrauchslisten" (Consumption lists) report (Enterprise): additional cards for total kWh and average kWh/100km for vehicles with charging receipts; the consumption chart separates l/100km and kWh/100km.
- „Verbrauch pro KM" (Consumption per km) report: electric vehicles get their own kWh row with kWh/100km; hybrids appear with one row per unit (fuel and electricity).
- CO2 reports: already account for electric receipts separately.
Outlier detection for charging sessions
Charging sessions have their own plausibility limits (instead of the litre limits):
- Consumption determination: charging values above 60 kWh/100km count as outliers (litres: 50 l/100km)
- „Verbrauch pro KM" (Consumption per km): its own kWh threshold (default 30 kWh/100km)
- Import validation rule „Lademenge zu hoch" (Charged amount too high) (150 kWh) can be enabled if needed (article 10)
Vehicle drive type
For a vehicle to appear correctly in the EV reports, the Antriebsart (drive type) (e.g. „Vollelektrisch", i.e. Fully electric) should be maintained on the vehicle. If it is missing, FMWeb classifies the vehicle automatically based on its fuelling/charging data (article 14) – manually set values are never overwritten.
Frequently asked questions
Earlier charging sessions were posted as litres – what happens to them? Old Belege stay unchanged and continue to be counted towards fuel electricity in the reports. From the changeover onwards, new imports post correctly in kWh.
A charging session was billed by time (minutes) – where is the kWh amount? For time-based billing, the provider does not supply an energy amount; FMWeb then posts only the costs.
