Maintaining Body Types and Catalogs
Overview
This article covers two catalog tables of the General Master Data (/applications/generalMasterData/overview):
- Bauarten (Body Types; group Fahrzeug / Vehicle): the vehicle-type catalog - car, truck, van, bus, trailer, etc.
- Kataloge (Catalogs; group Organisieren / Organize): a free directory table for your own lists and reference works.
Body types
The body type is a mandatory field when creating a vehicle and controls which tabs and fields the vehicle record shows (e.g. for truck, bus and trailer body types the record shows additional commercial-vehicle tabs, Article 20).
The side dialog ("Bauart hinzufügen" / Add body type; "Bauart bearbeiten" / Edit body type) contains:

| Max | optional numeric value (e.g. an upper limit for internal reports) |
| Typ (Type) | optional numeric type identifier |
The table additionally shows the Anzahl Fahrzeuge (Number of Vehicles); expanding a row lists the vehicles of this body type. If a body type is missing when creating a vehicle, you can create it directly from within the vehicle record.
Important: Because the body type controls how the vehicle record is displayed, you should rename existing body types only with care and reassign the linked vehicles before deleting.
Catalogs
The Kataloge (Catalogs) table is a simple directory with two fields:

The creation and change timestamps are logged automatically. Use catalogs, for example, for internal reference lists (supplier catalogs, price lists, equipment overviews) that your team should access from a central place.
Frequently asked questions
Which body types should I create at a minimum? Base it on your fleet: car, van, truck, and possibly bus, trailer/semi-trailer. The commercial-vehicle-specific tabs of the vehicle record appear only for the corresponding body types.
What do "Max" and "Typ" (Type) mean for a body type? Both are optional numeric additional fields for your own systematics; only the label is required for the standard functions. When in doubt, leave the fields empty.
