Creating a Vehicle: Step by Step

Overview

You create new vehicles in the vehicle overview (/applications/vehicles/overview). When creating a vehicle, FMWeb deliberately asks only for the two mandatory details that make a vehicle unique — Kennzeichen (License plate) and Bauart (Vehicle class). You add all further data (driver, technical details, contracts, insurance, etc.) afterwards in the full vehicle record.

Step 1: Start creating

1. Open Stammdaten → Fahrzeuge.
2. Click "Neues Fahrzeug" (New vehicle) at the top right (green button with a plus icon).
3. The creation form (/applications/vehicles/addoredit/0) opens with the title "Fahrzeug hinzufügen" (Add vehicle).

If you don't see the button, your account is missing the vehicles.edit permission — you then have read-only rights (Article 18).

Step 2: Enter license plate and vehicle class

The vehicle class later controls which additional areas the record offers (e.g. the truck/bus and the trailer area, Article 42). If a vehicle class is missing from the list, first create it under Stammdaten → Allgemeine Stammdaten (Article 20).

Step 3: Save

Click Speichern (Save). If there are problems, the form shows an error box "Bitte korrigieren Sie die markierten Eingaben." (Please correct the highlighted entries.) with details at the respective field:

• "Kennzeichen ist erforderlich." (License plate is required.) — the license plate is empty.
• "Bauart ist erforderlich." (Vehicle class is required.) — no vehicle class was selected.
• "Das Kennzeichen ist bereits vergeben." (The license plate is already assigned.) — a vehicle with this license plate already exists in the tenant. Check the overview; when taking over license plates from old vehicles, the takeover wizard helps (Article 43).

The error highlight disappears automatically as soon as you correct the field.

After saving: completing the vehicle record

After a successful creation (message "Speichern erfolgreich" — Saved successfully), you land directly in the new vehicle's record on the Übersicht (Overview) tab. Recommended order for completion:

1. Übersicht/Datenblatt (Overview/Data sheet): make, model, drive type, location, assign driver (Article 34)
2. Technik (Technical data): chassis number, HSN/TSN, engine data (Article 35)
3. Kauf (Purchase) or Verträge (Contracts): acquisition or leasing contract (Articles 36, 38)
4. Versicherung (Insurance) (Article 37)
5. Wartung (Maintenance): HU/UVV dates — the basis for the email reminders (Article 39)

Frequently asked questions

Why do I only see two fields in the creation form? This is intentional: only after the first save does the vehicle record with all its tabs exist. This prevents half-created records.

Can a colleague edit the new vehicle right away? Yes — but note the editing lock: only one person can edit the same record at a time (Article 44).
